Frequently Asked Questions What is a
marriage encounter? Marriage Encounter is an opportunity for married couples to
pause briefly and to sincerely consider the most important area of their
lives - their marriage. Marriage Encounter is a weekend away from home and the
distractions and tensions of everyday life. It is a time to become
reacquainted and to learn or re-learn how to talk and listen to each other.
The emphasis of the Marriage Encounter is on communication between husband
and wife - a communication that is a dialog with the person who means more
than any other. There is no group discussion or group dynamic. Rather, the
Marriage Encounter encourages a sensitive awareness to develop within each
individual couple. Who is it
for? Marriage Encounter is for any married couple desiring to better
their marriage. Couples of any age or faith commitment are welcome to explore
and strengthen the meaning of their married lives in their own frame of
religion. Couples with severe marriage problems may need counseling in
addition to or in place of the weekend. Where and
when? Madison National Marriage Encounter weekends at various
locations throughout southern central Wisconsin. All accommodations are
quiet, private, comfortable and relaxing. The weekend begins on Saturday morning
and conclude late Sunday afternoon. A minimum of four couples must be registered for the weekend to
be held (If the weekend has to be canceled due to low enrollment, you will
receive a refund of any money paid for the weekend). Encounter weekends may also be held at local churches during the
year. What does it
cost? A $100 donation is requested to confirm your registration.
It is not refundable, but can be applied to any weekend at any future
date. At the end of the weekend, you'll be asked to make a free-will
donation based on the actual cost of the weekend. The deposit is refundable if Madison National Marriage Encounter
must cancel the weekend. Note: If you have a
financial hardship of any kind let us know and we will work with you. Who runs the
encounter? The weekend is conducted
by a team of volunteer married couples and clergy who have been trained
together in preparation to present topics on various areas of married life.
Their responsibility is to set the atmosphere and be of service to the
attending couples.
