What is Marriage Encounter?
Marriage Encounter is...
a special weekend that helps married couples rediscover themselves and their relationship
We can spend years getting an education, or training, for our jobs and careers. We spend time and money on our homes, vehicles, hobbies and clothes... but how much time, energy or money do we spend improving and growing together as a couple?
All marriages need attention, effort and nurturing. Improving communication in marriage is an ongoing process.
Come build a better marriage with Madison Marriage Encounter!

History of Marriage Encounter
In 1952 in Barcelona, Spain, Father Gabriel Calvo was approached by a couple, Mercedes & Jaime Ferrer. They said, "Gabriel, we need spiritual direction as a couple and as a family . . . There is nothing to help us as a couple."
Thus began the original concept of Marriage Encounter in the need of a married couple to grow together and in the belief that the future transformation of the world begins at the heart of the family - the couple. Father Calvo and a group of encountered Spanish couples brought Marriage Encounter to the United States in 1966.
Since then, it has spread rapidly across the U.S. and in many other countries. Hundreds of thousands of couples have made a Marriage Encounter. It is given at retreat centers, in church facilities, private homes and schools, on camp grounds, and motels, as a ministry to married couples to help them grow together in love
Method of Marriage Encounter
Marriage Encounter is a weekend program for married couples, led by married couples.
A series of presentations are given by volunteer "team couples". Each team couple has found Marriage Encounter so rewarding to their relationship that they've trained to help you celebrate and improve your marriage. The couples share their marriage joys, frustrations, disappointments, hurts, hopes, and dreams... and then give you some questions to reflect on and discuss privately
The format is designed to help couples communicate openly and honestly; to explore your relationship together and find ways to make more fulfilling and stronger.
